Summer Reading 2021

Sign up for summer reading via Beanstack! Come into the library and tell the librarian something about the book you are reading to get our weekly summer reading prize! Everyone who participates in summer reading can come in August 18th -21st for their certificate for a free creemmee.

All events are completely free and open to the public and last approximately 1 hour

Every Tuesday at 10am Outside Story Time! All summer long!

Summer Reading Kickoff Lawn Party  Saturday June 19th 10am We’re kicking off summer reading with a lawn party! We’ll have lawn games, popsicles, prizes, and more!  

Messy Morning Thursday June 24th 10:00 am Fingerpainting! Jello! Shaving cream! We’ll be getting messy and having fun with all our best sensory play.  

Family STEAM Challenge Saturday June 26th 10am Tallest Tower Challenge. Use the materials provided to build the tallest tower. There will be prizes!

Printmaking Wednesday June 30th 10 am Make your own prints using linoleum carving. 8 and up. (8 to 10 with an adult’s help)

Needle Felting Mushrooms Wednesday July 7th 10 am These little mushrooms are so cute! Needle Felt your own. 8 and up. (8 to 10 with an adult’s help, those needles are sharp!)

MAGIC ROCKS! with Tom Joyce Friday July 16, 10am Tom Joyce is back for another year with one of his amazing magic shows! New books and new tricks, all in one exciting event! Always a crowd favorite! Ages 4 and up.

The Tale of a Kite’s Tail Tuesday July 20, 10am Look at the kite through-out history, the materials with which they were constructed and what we have used for through the ages. Finish up your learning by making a simple kite to take home.

Family STEAM Challenge Saturday July 24th 10am Catapult Challenge. Use the materials provided to build the catapult that with the farthest launches. There will be prizes! 

Vermont Suitcase Company Presents: Robin Hood Wednesday Tuesday July 28, 1pmWhat, you don’t know the story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian? The rascal Prince John who’s in charge while his brother King Richard is away fighting in the Crusades?

You know… The Merry Men, Friar Tuck, and Little John? Chippie the union-man and Fischer always sharpening his knife?

You know… The orphanage going under, and Friar Tuck always drunk on his own ale?

Compass Making and Scavenger Hunt Saturday July 31st 10am Make your own compass and use it to go on a scavenger hunt! 

Vermont Raptors Wednesday August 4th 2:30pm Meet the birds of prey! Three to four live hawks, owls and falcons will come for a face-to-face exploration of what it takes to be a raptor. 

Family STEAM Challenge Saturday August 7th 10am Rubber Band Car Challenge. Use the materials (and instructions)  provided to build the fastest rubber band car. 

There will be prizes!

Comic Workshop Wednesday August 11th 2pm 

Join cartoonists Dan Nott and Daryl Seitchik for a workshop about using comics to explore the causes that are most important to you. Dan and Daryl will also be giving a tutorial on how we can use comics and simple drawings to express ourselves and the issues we care about – like fighting for equality and increasing awareness about climate change. 13 and up.

Fairy Houses Thursday August 12th 10am Make your very own fairy house to take home using natural materials – just like the fairies would. 

Tie Dye Party! Saturday August 14th 10am We’re tie dying outside. Everyone will get a t-shirt or you can bring whites from home. Please let us know you’re coming so we can make sure we have enough dye for all. Groovy. 
End of Summer Reading with Mike and the Big Blue Trunk  Friday August 20, 10 am – Mike and the Big Blue Trunk is back for our end of summer reading party! Held outdoors weather permitting with ice cream, lemonade, and balloon animals for everyone! All Ages.
