The Worthen Library continued its annual author talk tradition on August 23rd with a visit from nationally acclaimed writer Emily Bernard. Dr. Bernard, English Professor at UVM, read from her book Black Is the Body: Stories from My Grandmother’s Time, My Mother’s Time, and Mine.
A full room listened as Dr. Bernard spoke openly and eloquently about how her racial identity and others’ perceptions about race have influenced experiences throughout her life. Her highly personal collection of essays provided a wonderful starting point for a discussion with the audience.
Copies of Dr. Bernard’s book, which has enjoyed widespread critical praise and was picked as one of Oprah Magazine’s 25 most anticipated books of 2019, are available for loan at the Worthen Library.
